Lorin D. Hiatt, the fifth child of David Rufus and Nora Mitchell Hiatt, was born in Payson, Utah. He was baptized 6 May 1923, Endowed 25 Jan 1939 in Salt Lake. He was educated in the schools of Payson and graduated from high school and seminary. He married Margaret Frost in the Salt Lake Temple 25 Jan 1939.
Following their marriage they lived in Springville, Utah, later moving to Salt Lake where they remained for 20 years. Lorin served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army from 13 Dec 1944 until his discharge 8 April 1946. He saw active duty in the Pacific Theater of that war. He belonged to the Tropic Lightning Division, 35 Regiment of the 25th Infantry. He was in the
Phillippines, Luzon, and after J.V. Day, spent the next year as an occuptional soldier in Japan. Lorin became a Journeyman Plumber after returning from the war and worked at this trade until his retirement.
Lorin has always loved scouting and in his younger years was quite a
scouter. He has helped three of his four sons to achieve the rank of Eagle
scout. Another son reached the rank of Life Scout, but because of his fear of water could not pass the Life Saving Merit Badge. He has served on the Boy Scout Committee, committee Chairman, and a District Neighborhood Commissioner.
