From the Harmon Hiatt booklet, written in 1895. I find in Crawfordsville a certain William Hiatt, who says his father is Silas Hiatt, and his father is John Hiatt, and his grandfather's father again was John Hiatt, which would carry him back to be the son of George Hiatt, and a brother of William Hiatt and Christopher and an uncle of Amer Hiatt and his brothers and sisters. This is evidently the missing John Hiatt. They came from Carolina to Indiana, they say in 1823, and were Quakers. They perhaps belonged to some meeting a little way out of the common travel and became estranged to our part of the family. The name of Silas would suggest a relationship.
History of the Hiatt family, written for the Winchester Jounal Herald by
Willard Heiss, Dec. 28, 1946, Page 6. (Randoph Co., Ind.) Silas born Oct 14,
1793, married 1821 to Mary Davis.
