ON MOM'S BITHDAY 1-24-2008 SHE SAID THAT SHE WEIGHED 7 AND 1/2 POUNDS AT BIRTH. THAT HER GRANDFATHER BROUGHT MINNIE HER GRANDMOTHER MIDWIFE, TO BIRTH HER AT THE HOUSE. WAS A HORSE DRAWN WAGON AND THE SNOW WAS UP TO HORSE BELLY MID DAY.

SHE SAID THAT SHE WENT TO THE SAME GRADE SCHOOL IN PRINCETON FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS WHERE HER HUSBAND BILL WENT ALTHOUGH THEY WERE ABOUT FIVE YEARS APART, SHE WAS IN SECOND AND THIRD GRADES.

SHE SAID SHE WOULD TAKE SHORT CUTS THROUGH THE FIELD NEXT TO WHERE BILL LIVED ON WAY TO HER WORK WHEN SHE WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL. SHE WORKED AT A STORE AND MADE SODAS, MILK SHAKES AND SUCH. SHE SAID THAT SHE HAD CREATED MANY OF THE SPECIAL DRINK COMBINATIONS THAT WERE "INVENTED" MANY YEARS LATER AND WISH SHE HAD OBTAINED A PATENT ON THEM.

IN THE 1940-1950 BILL HYATT JR (12-18-1946) REMEMBERS:
THAT THE FAMILY LIVED ON FARLEY HILL. THAT LUTHER AND HIS SONS JOE AND JL WERE HORSE TRADERS AND COAL MINERS. THAT THE HORSES WON A "TON" OF RIBBONS EVERY TIME THE WENT TO HORSE SHOW. THAT THE HORSES WERE GENERALLY DECORATED UP WITH RIBBONS. THE HOUSE AND BARN ACROSS THE DIRT ROAD AND GARDEN BESIDE THE HOUSE WAS OWNED BY A LARGE COAL COMPANY AND LEASED. THE HOUSE WAS A WOOD FRAME ON ROCK PILLARS UNDER WHICH BILL JR AND HIS SISTER SHIRLEY PLAYED FOR MANY HOURS ON THE DRY DIRT WITH LITTLE METAL CARS ETC. THE HOUSE HAD A CREEK BEHIND IT ABOUT 20 FEET LOWER THAN THE BACK PORCH. GRANDMA MAUD AND MOTHER MINNIE WOULD CARRY HOT TUBS OF WATER TO THE BACK PORCH OR BACK YARD FOR WASHING. THEY CREATED "LYE" SOAP IN THE BACK YARD. YOU WOULD HAVE TO WALK ACROSS THE CREEK AND UP THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL TO VISIT THE "OUTHOUSE" BUT IN THE NIGHT IF YOU NEEDED TO "GO" THEY HAD A "CONTAINER" IN THE HOUSE YOU COULD USE WHICH WOULD BE EMPTIED IN THE MORNING.

James Lewis “Jay” Parker
LINDSIDE - James Lewis “Jay” Parker, 77, of Lindside, W.Va., died June 25, 2008 at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness.

Born November 30, 1930 at Princeton, he was a son of the late James and Maude Thompson Parker. He was a member of the Spruce Run Church of the Brethren and a honorary member of the Rock Camp Wikel Ruritan Club.

He was preceded in death by ones brother, Joe Parker.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Frances Miller Parker; four sons, Frank and wife Jamie of Alderson, Bill and wife Myra of Palm Coast, Fla., John and wife Karen of Livermoore, Calif., and Chris of Lindside; one daughter, Heather Parker and her friend Jeremy McMahan of Lindside; two sisters, Minnie Hyatt of Beckley, W.Va. and Anna Lee Powell of Florida; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a host of friends and relatives and a special loyal friend and companion Sheba.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Wickline Funeral Home of Lindside with the Rev. Roger Booth and the Rev. Dewey Broyles officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Memorial Gardens in Lindside.

Friends may call today (Friday), June 27, 2008 from 6 p.m. ‘til 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Spruce Run Church of the Brethren, Rt. 1 Box 36-A, Lindside, WV 24951 or Rock Camp Wikel Ruritan Club, Rt. Box 119, Lindside, WV 24951.
